Producer/Farm

Calie Winterboer and his familie have been farming in the Low Veld for the past 20 years. The started with 2014 from 20x F6 trees that has now grown to over 5,000. The farm is situated around 880 MASL and with a moderate tropical climate is well suited to grow coffee. Most of the trees are grown in between macadamia trees, which also helps to conserve the water & fertiliser resources and optimises land use. The farm is also focused on sustainability; using 100% solar energy and uses the latest farming techniques to have a low impact on the environment. They also love bees, which is an integral part of the eco system by planting basil to feed the bees in the off season. Wild flowers are also planted in between the coffee trees to help prevent erosion. Grass is also left to grow and only cut during harvest season. Natural bush is also left between the plantations to help retain the biodiversity and provide a home for the wild live, including the precious bees.

###Processing After de-pulping the cherries the bean is washed and left to ferment in water for around 3 days and then left on drying beds to dry for about 2 weeks. It is then hand sorted by hand to ensure defects are reduced and sorted to only retain >7mm beans.
